Frank Baldino was an American entrepreneur and businessman who founded Cephalon, a biopharmaceutical company, in 1987. He was born in 1953 in Philadelphia and raised in South Jersey.
Baldino studied pharmacology at Temple University and earned a Ph.D. in neuroscience from Thomas Jefferson University. He spent several years working in the pharmaceutical industry before founding Cephalon, which focused on developing treatments for neurological disorders and cancer.
Under Baldino's leadership, Cephalon developed several successful drugs, including Provigil, a treatment for sleep disorders, and Treanda, a chemotherapy drug used to treat leukemia and lymphoma. The company was acquired by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries in 2011 for $6.8 billion.
Baldino was known for his passion for science and his commitment to philanthropy. He was a member of several scientific and medical organizations and served on the boards of several public and private companies. Baldino passed away in 2010 at the age of 57 due to complications from pneumonia.
